Whether you are a nature lover wishing to experience the wilderness and all its surprising fauna and flora, or simply looking to relax and rejuvenate, Gadadessa offers something for everyone.  Hiking, bird watching, exploring the plantation and its wilderness trails on an ATV – or simply enjoying the view (while having an ayurvedic treatment!) -- these are all options that are available to you at Gadadessa.
The resort sits on 50 acres of lush greenery, nestled in the central hills and overlooking the mystical Bible Rock. On a clear morning you can see Sri Pada, or Adam’s Peak, a mountain revered by all of Sri Lanka’s major religions. The forest and planted crops provide a habitat for a variety of flora (over 150 species of plants and trees) and over 50 species of birds, animals and butterflies.
Both bungalows are strategically located between the property’s planted crops – tea, vanilla, rubber, spices, organic vegetables and fruits – and the forested land that provides a natural habitat for several exotic species. Sustainable farming practices and the generation of renewable energy provide a natural complement to this ecosystem, and emphasize our guiding philosophy of maintaining harmony with nature.
The organic crops grown on the property enable us to serve guests healthy, organic meals daily, prepared in the ayurvedic tradition, if they so please. Even the natural, stream-fed swimming pool used by our guests serves the additional purpose of being a reservoir for our small scale hydroelectric power plant which generates some of the electricity needs of the resort.
You set your own pace at Gadadessa. You decide how you want to spend your days there. Whatever choices you make, we know you will not be disappointed.
The Octagon House, so named because of its distinctive shape, was designed and built by an American architect, to embody the spirit of Gadadessa. Influenced in part by the "Padirippuwa" at Kandy's famous Temple of the Tooth, and by an overall desire to be in harmony with nature, the Octagon House is made from sustainable, forest grown timber. Its design also takes advantage of natural airflows to keep the house cool at all times, and utilizes renewable energy sources for lighting, hot water and to power appliances.
The Octagon House's airy design with numerous large windows and balconies maximizes the visitor's experience of being one with nature. Breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and the valley below, and the lush greenery all around provide a sense of awe…Here you can wake up to the sounds of birds greeting the day, and fall asleep to the sound of crickets and the gentle breezes blowing through the hills.
Steps away, on the adjoining lawn is Gadadessa's helipad, enabling visitors to travel to/from Bandaranayake International Airport or Ratmalana is 20 to 25 minutes.
While the Octagon House maximizes the feeling of being close to nature, it certainly does not cut back on comforts provided to guests.
